Dreaming of a beautiful home is good; more rewarding is making it happen. The only roadblock is: we associate a beautiful home with a mansion, bungalow, villas, a 3BHK apartment, etc. Perform a search on Google Images with the term Beautiful Homes; you will understand what I intend to say. While I agree to some extent, these properties are a treat to the eye, not all of us can afford one. Also, the bigger the construction, the greater is the impact on nature. Therefore, for this reason, I am determined to change this perception. And show you any place can be made beautiful.
A Beautiful Home is easy to achieve with a sense of gratitude for the shelter and comfort a house provides. Your home is as dependent on you for its maintenance as much as you are on it. Hence, take this responsibility seriously. If you incorporate the following traits into your home, you can make it a beautiful space for your family and friends.
Cleanliness:
Cleanliness is an essential factor for making any space look beautiful. I cannot emphasize this enough. Maintaining a clean home is a skill. Once you master this, the majority of the problem sorted; in achieving a beautiful home. You might be living in a big or small space, having a simple or luxurious home, in the end, if it is not clean; you are not getting compliments on how beautiful your home is. I live in a rented space, good enough for a basic lifestyle but, I have received so many compliments just because we manage to keep it clean, organized, and minimal. We both give cleanliness paramount importance when it comes to making our home feel welcoming.
De-cluttering:
I have seen places that look like; hell broke loose transform after the de-cluttering process. If you live in a space for a while, you tend to store things you no longer use. Even in the most beautiful home, you will find items kept away for future use. The thought process is you will need it someday. If you are an individual who falls in love with your possession, your space is bound to have loads of unused items. Over a period, they take away valuable space, and you end up having no room for functional belongings. Make it a habit to responsibly dispose of/recycle/up-cycle unused items. The lesser the things in your room, the lesser the efforts and time you need to invest in cleaning.
Adequate Lighting:
A well-lit home is on any given day the essence of a beautiful home. It is vital to have abundant natural light entering the house. And without the right amount of light in the room, no matter how tastefully decorated, the house is still lifeless. But, if you already own a place with a very inadequate amount of natural light, try to make a few changes. Take expert advice to enhance the light quality of your space. However, where making changes is not an option, implement principles for lighting using an artificial lighting system. Most importantly, I recommend natural light in your living space to enrich the positive energy.
Color Scheme:
When deciding on wall paint, pick light shades unless your room is very bright and allows you to experiment with a darker shade. Given an option, I would want all walls painted white. Although I understand the primary concern would be it gets dirty with time, I would say it is worth a try. Firstly, consider the numerous decisions you would have to consider if you choose a specific shade. Secondly, white is affordable and easy to do a touch-up or repaint when necessary. Finally, there would be no limitations on the décor theme. While the walls are white, add your favorite colors to space by incorporating them into the décor.
Furniture Layout:
Since furniture associates with the tasks you perform, this is a tricky factor. Therefore, this trait will require measuring skills. You must measure the space before you purchase any furniture. You will need to know if your master bedroom can accommodate a king-size or a queen-size bed. For example, you dream of having that king-size bed for a luxury finish, and that is all you can fit in the room, you have wholly gone wrong in achieving a beautiful bedroom. Instead, go for a queen size bed and add side tables, lamps, etc. Once you have measured your space, purchase furniture that is apt for the room. You can’t have a large sofa in a small room and then compromise on its placement.
Storage and Organizing:
A well-planned storage space plays a dominant role in maintaining the beautiful home you have created. Be it an open storage space or closed cabinets; they, help maximize the use of the vertical space in a room. Thus, helping you achieve intentional placement of items to suit your needs daily or occasionally. Beyond that, it maintains all the bric-a-brac from cluttering your space. I would recommend closed cabinets, but if you don’t, skillfully organizing will do the trick. However, one such drawback to closed cabinets is we tend to pick everything and dump it, but that will only make your life difficult. Therefore, take time to designate a spot for all the articles, even better if you can arrange them artistically. No matter how well you maintain your home, a messy wardrobe, cabinet, and refrigerator will rip off the glory of your home.
Décor:
Interior décor adds character to your space; it can reflect your personality. Decor provides an opportunity to incorporate your favorite colors in your home. Moreover, you can enhance the dimension of your space by adding patterns and texture. And make a space look luxurious by incorporating metallic shades. Also, add mirrors to create an illusion of the room being spacious and reflect natural light. Indeed, the possibilities in achieving that beautiful home that reflects your personality are endless with this trait.
Fragrance:
A home is a space where multiple activities happen throughout the day. Every individual is busy completing the task at hand. Within a single day, your home can go from smelling fresh to stinking. It is even more challenging to keep your home smelling fresh if you have infants or pets at home. Bear in mind all items in the house can contribute to how your house smells. Of course, cleaning is a must to keep your home smelling good but, you will need to do more. Ensure you have your windows open during the morning hours for some fresh air to enter. Remember to cross-ventilate your space. Also, invest in various products available in the market that helps to keep the house smelling good. People tend to stay longer in places that have a pleasant aroma.
Plants:
A home with plants is way more attractive than the ones with none. There was a time when plants were potted and kept on the porch or a balcony. But trends have changed; there are various benefits in bringing plants indoors. They improve productivity, bringing in calmness, relieving stress, increasing oxygen levels, and maintain humidity. Also, a space with beautiful plants is overwhelming. I have seen a house that looks like a mini forest and, let me tell you: it had so much character. Again just adding the right lights and plants made the space look so stunning. If you have not added this trait to your home, try it! I have five small plants at my entrance and, it feels so welcoming and warm. Therefore my favorite spot.
Pets:
Just like plants, animals also raise the spirit of the house. Although not all homes have pets, I’m sure all pet lovers know how they turn an integral part of our homes and lives. They love you just the way you are. They contribute to your well-being in so many ways and, their affection radiates throughout your home. Yes, they are additional responsibilities and need grooming very often but if you want to add a bundle of joy to your life, adopt a pet. I had two dogs and several cats as pets in the past; coming home is never the same if they are no longer part of your life.
You can have a big villa, yet without the above traits, one would not call it a beautiful home. It does take effort and time to include and master these traits. In conclusion to being with, develop a sense of gratitude and love for your home. Begin from there and accordingly transform your home one step at a time. And, watch life bloom for you and your loved ones.
